Mendeley iOS app just released
On Sept 23 Mendeley announced the release of a FREE Mendeley app available through iTunes (for iPhone and iPad). Although a great step forward for our Apple owners, there's still issues with a number of functions that work fine on PCs. Read the full announcement at the Mendely blog http://blog.mendeley.com/uncategorized/the-new-mendeley-for-ipad-and-iphone/ and go to the LibGuides / Referencing / Need Help? area to obtain the Mendeley Tips n Tricks PDF which has been updated to provide even greater support for Apple users.

Be SMART, use the BioScience online tools
The Library has created a new video which introduces you to a few tools to help you improve your knowledge and understanding of the human body. A good understanding of how to use them is a must for first year students.
Renee, the Perth Campus Librarian has created a short introductory video
http://cld-vid02.endeavour.edu.au/index.php/extwidget/openGraph/wid/0_2k5ezksr
that gives you a quick guide to SMART the extraordinary (Scientific & Medical Art Imagebase) which has professional diagrams that you can download, edit and use in your studies, as well as animations and printed information sheets (monographs) on different parts of the body and diseases.
She also looks at Visible Body which is a powerful 3D modeling tool which allows you to layer different parts of the body and test your knowledge. This includes muscles for those students doing musculoskeletal and Fitness programs.
Another tool is the Human Atlas which is part of the RealTime Health suite. There are animations to show the composition and functions of different parts of the body.
Log onto these tools, play with them to see how they can help you, and seek assistance from your campus library staff if you're unsure. Happy studies!

Mid year Reduced Opening Hours
All campus libraries are operating on reduced opening hours. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are open 9am - 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am - 4pm on Friday.
The smaller campuses opening hours depends on availability of staff. Please contact the library prior to attending if you have a long journey. They are open daily but hours may vary and they may be closed for lunch.
After exams, the libraries have been very quiet as students take a well deserved break. For those of you lucky to be having a break from studying, enjoy! For those still studying, the libraries are still open and the virtual.librarian@endeavour.edu.au still available to assist.

Nearly 90% of students have a smartphone
The Student Technology Survey 2013 found some changes in how students now study. Smartphones and electronic tablet ownership, along with demand for campus WiFi were the major changes in student technology usage for 2013. The big surprise was the increase in email usage, which may be accounted for by the current easy access to email on mobile devices.
The Survey paints a picture of students who own and regularly use technology for their studies and personal use. Facebook usage remained the same and social networking sites did not rise in popularity. The Survey summary is now available from campus libraries and Learning Centres. Endeavour management will be using the survey results and comments to assist in resource and programme planning. Many thanks for your contribution and feedback.

Are you taking advantage of Endeavour eBooks?
During April, the campus libraries and learning centres will be providing classes or drop in sessions to show you how to access and make great use of our eBooks.
We are constantly adding to our eBook collection. In March, besides the 100 Credo Reference titles, we also purchased 30 individual titles related to our main teaching areas. All titles are listed on the eLibrary catalogue and can also be found through the Discovery Search.
Information on eBooks related to different subjects are scattered throughout LibGuides both in the Subject Guides and How to Use.. sections.
If you're browsing the library shelves and have a smart phone, try reading the QR tags attached to the different modality dividers. They will give you a list of ebook titles for that particular modality.
If you want to know more, talk to a librarian or attend a class in:

We can only apologise for disruption to your studies and the subsequent frustration experienced while trying to access our services.
If you experience any ongling problems, please contact your campus library staff or the virtual.librarian@endeavour.edu.au.

New ID Cards at Brisbane & Melbourne
In the next few weeks Brisbane and Melbourne students will be able to obtain new student ID cards from the Learning Centre/Library. The new system will be working from the week beginning 14th January, so feel free to come in, request a card and have your photo taken. Student cards are mandatory for sitting exams and library loans as well as transport concessions for full time students.
Soorn, the new smart cards will also be required for printing. Any remaining credits on your old printing accounts will be manually transferred to your new account. We will do this on request, as the new and old systems dont talk to each other. The good news is you'll be able to add credit to your card online through PayPal; no more minimum amounts and waiting in line!
If possible visit the Learning Centre in the weeks prior to semester to obtain you Student ID Card. This will help reduce the pressure on the staff as they learn how to use the new equipment and system. And we'll also try to help you with learning the new printing requirements too.
Happy 2013!
